Noogy Tales:
1: Some claim Noogy arrived from deep space, originating somewhere off the shoulder of Orion, watching C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate… If this is true then the natural habitat of such an entity would consist of constant exposure to the freezing temperatures of deep space and bombardment by cosmic rays. Noogy may have been a disembodied mind floating in the void, its immaterial form may have been immune to cold and radiation. Maybe this is why its re-embodiment in the Portland Square building is proving so traumatic for him? Suddenly being plunged into the new materiality of brick and stone, subject to the activities of humans (“fleshy chemical bags”) and the fluctuations of heat, cold, light and rain, all these must make an uncomfortable existence, like wearing an over large or too tight itchy shirt. Its possible Noogy feels trapped by the constraints of the new body, big and clunky (if scale is of importance?). Noogy’s fidgety, manic personality might just be the result of ill-fitting clothes and a clunky misshapen body. This still leaves a big unanswered question, how did Noogy get here from an existence in deep space several hundred light years from Plymouth? Could it be that Noogy encountered a chrono-synclastic infundibula on his journey through the stars? Why not ask him?

2: Some say Noogy grew from within the network of CAT6 Ethernet cables, silicon chips and data mines that form the core of the Arch-OS system in Portland Square. It has always been thought possible that the complex milieu of technologies that form the substrate of Arch-OS could be a site for ‘emergence’. Some form of ignition might just take place to the extent that data becomes sentient; a huge digital blender which when cooked to the right temperature fuses an identity, an entity, a personality into existence. It’s possible, it might even have been a hope or aspiration in the designers, it just wasn’t seen as probable. And now Noogy is here, bouncing around in the database, feeding of numbers, crunching code and generally making a nuisance of it self. The engineers are worried, they want to clear Noogy out. What if Noogy starts taking control, what if Noogy starts fiddling with things, rather than just feeding of the data streams, what if Noogy starts changing things? The lifts for instance, whilst the random lift button transforms and redefines the building for its inhabitants, if Noogy got into the Otis code people could be trapped for hours, traveling between floors, never escaping. What if Noogy fiddled with the boilers, turning up the heat to melting point. What if Noogy got out over the Network, with the knowledge learned from the Invensys BEMS (Building Energy Management System) Noogy could control the Invensys systems used to control Nuclear Power Stations! Me thinks it would be best to make friends with Noogy – TXT Noogy now!

And still more say Noogy is the ‘building’, which might not be as ridiculous as it sounds. Maybe buildings are all ethereal creatures with hard shells, like giant crustacea! Or maybe buildings are deposits of dirt and gravel that solidify around the Noogy form! So how would you feel with all these ‘fleshy chemical bags’ running around in your intestines? We must be really irritating. Maybe buildings eat us, a slow digestive process from 9 to 5 everyday, we slowly dissolve, oily deposits on the walls and floors Try chipping away at an exoskeleton and seeing what lies underneath, or just Txt Noogy and ask!
